It is not always enjoyable living in the UK when wind, rain and flooding batters at your doorway from October to February. You can choose to leave the UK for months at a time if you have reached the age of retirement, only coming home as the days get longer and lighter. If you still rely on a monthly pay check but would prefer to be sunning yourself rather than removing snow from your shoes, then teaching jobs abroad might be for you.
You do not have to hold a teaching degree in order to teach English in a foreign country, but you will need to complete a TEFL course. You can still do your full time job whilst carrying out EFL training or another course by taking them on a part-time or distance basis. This means that by completing your course in the summer, you can begin your winter life as a TEFL teacher as soon as the days start getting shorter.
Whilst this might not be a viable choice for people whose work commitments at home will not allow them to take off two or three months of the year, if you do work on a more casual basis or perhaps have a seasonal job in the UK, you could find yourself working in some of the most diverse and exciting countries in the world. China, South America, Japan, Africa and Asia all have opportunities for British natives to travel there to teach English as a foreign language.
Not only might you be able to find a job where flights are included, but you could also be in the situation where your accommodation is paid for, you have long hours of spare time and your cost of living is less than it would be had you stayed in the UK.
Just imaging lying on the beach with an icy cocktail after an easy day of teaching whilst your colleagues back home are stuck at a desk, staring into a grey sky and wishing they were half as lucky as you. How Perfect!
